The Gleneagles™ Hotel

Leisure Activities

As a resort we are famous – and award-winning – for our golf courses, dining experiences and our spa, but our country setting allows us to offer so much more: our Country Pursuits. Whether shooting, riding or something in between, our dedicated staff can take you through every level, regardless of whether you are just starting out or a regular enthusiast.

Our legendary Shooting School is open to everyone from crack-shots to those who are new to the sport, taking groups of individuals to corporate organisations or day-long shooting events. Offering a range of shooting opportunities – including Clay Pigeon, Air Rifles, Archery and full stalking and shooting breaks – our world-class facilities have made shooting one of our most popular activities. Do not just take our word for it though – here is London 2012 Olympic Gold Medallist, Peter Wilson, who lead a day at the Shooting School.

A legacy from the days of countryside hunts, the hotel has always had kennels and gun dogs. Today we are really proud to have launched The Gundog School – the latest of our country pursuits to have been added. When you visit The Gundog School you work with our dogs – a very affable group of sleek Labradors – learning how to get the most of their agility, incorporating obedience and handling. There is also the Gundog Scurry, a favourite of country shows up and down the country, where you see the dogs really go for it in their attempts to jump run and retrieve one of dummies. You can get involved too, showing your skills on getting the most from our dogs; the timing element here is especially good for a spot of competition between families and groups.

For many staying with us – or visiting for the day – a highlight of the pursuits on offer is doubtlessly the plethora of activities that take place in the Equestrian School. Taking advantage of our huge amounts of space, the Equestrian School is one of the best equipped in the country, able to showcase every level of horsemanship. Regardless of whether you have never been on a horse in your life, want to sit your BHS exams, learn how to play polo or attend one of the many events that take place in our arena each year, the wonderful team at the Equestrian Centre will have something in mind for you.

Our activities are not simply limited to these three though, there is always more going on. The stunning countryside the hotel is set in gives us near-endless possibilities of activities to do. Rugged terrain has allowed us to develop a selection of exhilarating Off-Roading courses – both for our 4x4 LandRovers and our All-Terrain vehicles. Being surrounded by moors, hillside and forested areas also lends to spectacular opportunities for Wildlife Photography, and the winding rivers are perfect for a spot of laid back fishing. Closer to the hotel we also run Falconry classes, bringing this ancient sport to life for a new age – perfect for families.

Activities for all the family are really important to us, so we have tried to make everything as accessible as possible – we even have our very own junior off-roading, with custom build electric LandRovers!

The leisure facilities on offer do not stop with our activities though. Our fully-equipped fitness and leisure centre, The Club, is home to two indoor swimming pools and an outdoor hot pool, a gym and a dance and aerobics studio. The Club is also home to our tennis facilities, steam room and sauna.
