SUMMER WALKS & STOPS
Portobello Beach & Civerinos
9 June 2023Just a few miles from the centre of the capital lies Portobello, a charming seaside suburb boasting two miles of sandy beach providing the perfect spot to escape the metropolis when the east coast is blessed with some sunshine…
Growing popular as a Scottish holiday destination around the same time that Gleneagles did, Portobello is peppered with buildings rich in fascinating Scottish history. With a lovely vista of the famous Firth of Forth, an estuary of several Scottish rivers meeting the North Sea, as well as clear water, fine sand, and enough entertainment to occupy the whole family, Portobello has remained a firm favourite among locals and inner-city dwellers alike. Often likened to Spanish beaches, on a sunny day you’re likely to see volleyball games, kayaking, and sailing. Scotland’s temperamental summer weather needn’t restrict this lovely day trip to warmer forecasts though, if it’s too cold to dip your toes, there’s a two-mile promenade lined with all the seaside shops and eateries you could hope for – perfect to stroll and peruse while still enjoying beach views that are beautiful rain or shine.
Be sure not to miss Nobles Amusement Arcade, a long serving family-run hub of fun with an array of classic and modern arcade games for some authentic seaside recreation. Tucked in beside this iconic arcade is Prom Slice, owned by the Edinburgh-renowned pizza connoisseurs at Civerinos.
Whether you want to grab a slice to fuel your stroll along the golden sands or you’ve worked up an appetite for one of their famous 20-inch pies to enjoy with a prime view of the Forth, Prom Slice have lined the beachfront with deckchairs so visitors can relax with a slice in the sun for lunch or share a selection of their delicious pizzas beside a fire with friends at dusk.
