Meet the Expert:

Rachel Williamson

30 October 2024

The inventors and the innovators, the big thinkers and the bon vivants, the families and the friends – Gleneagles has long been the destination for glorious gatherings and historic meetings.

A magical 850-acre retreat in the heart of Perthshire, Gleneagles offers a unique setting for any group gathering. “We know how to mark an occasion,” Rachel says, “and with such a large area to play in, clients can discover so much about themselves and their colleagues.”

Personal favourites include the falconry and gundog demonstrations. “Watching guests experience these activities is really special,” she shares. “The birds and dogs have their own personalities, making each experience unique and unscripted.” These activities not only enhance the guest experience but also create lasting memories for corporate teams, fostering a stronger bond beyond the meeting rooms.

While the activities on the estate are a major draw, Gleneagles’ location also allows for off-property excursions that enrich the overall itinerary. From nearby attractions such as Stirling Castle and Scone Palace with their rich historical significance, to Lindores Abbey and Glenfiddich Distillery which provide an excellent spot for local whisky tastings and spaces for group dining or private events. “We are only an hour’s drive from Edinburgh and St Andrews,” she adds, “so I always encourage clients to add a day trip to experience the capital’s rich history or experience some of the most famous golf courses in the world.”

Rachel’s ideal day at Gleneagles reflects the versatility the estate offers. “I’d start with a swim in the lap pool, followed by breakfast in The Strathearn,” she envisions. “The sun would, of course, be shining, and I’d spend a few hours enjoying a mix of activities in the glorious playground—my personal favourites being the gundogs and a bit of clay target shooting.” A picnic in the Crook of Devon, a location filled with childhood memories, and a relaxing massage at The Spa would cap off the perfect day. She also recommends pre-dinner drinks in The American Bar, followed by dinner at the two-Michelin-star Andrew Fairlie Restaurant, where the grilled lobster is a must-try.
