Make the most of the natural landscape surrounding Gleneagles with our take on Wild Wellness – a mindful and restorative nature-based wellness programme.

Guided by the principle that exposure to nature has significant physical and mental health benefits, the two-night and three-day retreat invites you to reconnect with the natural rhythm of the dramatic Scottish landscape, to nurture mind, body and soul.

Day 1 –  BREATHING IN THE WILDERNESS

Your Wild Wellness journey will commence with an introduction to pranayama breathing, known for its power to soothe and revitalise a tired body.

An immersive Nature Walk on the estate will follow with guests given the chance to track and observe local wildlife along the way. For those looking to push their boundaries, the walk culminates with the ancient Japanese ritual of waterfall bathing.

After dinner in The Strathearn, guests will be whisked away for an evening of stargazing – with al-fresco digestifs to reflect on the day’s adventure.

Day 2 – A MINDFUL MORNING IN THE MOUNTAINS

The world famous Gleneagles breakfast provides the ultimate fuel for the full day’s expedition that awaits – summiting the magnificent Ben Vorlich,  3,000 ft above sea level,  which provides the most dramatic backdrop to Loch Earn.  Regarded as the Gateway to the Highlands, guests will take in spectacular views, before stopping off for a scenic picnic lunch. Back at the hotel,  guests will retreat to the award-winning spa for a well-earned aromatherapy massage to help soothe tired limbs.

Day 3 – EMBRACING NATURAL PURSUITS

The Wild Wellness programme will culminate with a morning of fishing, foraging and forest bathing. Guests will take time to breathe, relax and enjoy an introduction to seasonal foraging – be that edible or medicinal –  and learning about the wild and wonderful flavours in Scotland’s natural larder.

Take a tranquil boat ride on the loch, before enjoying an introduction to the graceful and rhythmic art of fly fishing. The retreat concludes with a Forest Bathing session in Torlum Wood, allowing guests to slow down and completely immerse themselves in the tranquil atmosphere .

Guests will depart Gleneagles focussed and restored, with a newfound sense of inner calm, and with newly learnt holistic practices to better equip them to handle the stresses of everyday life.

    Returning home.

    TEE SHOT

Keep well left on the fairway to open up the second shot. If you go too far right, the trees will block your second.

    APPROACH

The second shot should be placed towards the right of the fairway, leaving a pitch to an angled green. The bunkering around the green is very severe, so beware of straying. From the left, the approach is blind due to the mound behind the bunker. Note that this bunker is set a good 15 yards in front of the green.

    GREEN

An undulating green which makes long putting difficult. It is narrow from front to back and has obvious bumps and hollows.

    TEE SHOT

    GREEN

There is a ridge running up the green making long putting difficult.

    TEE SHOT

The ideal line is left of the fairway bunker.

    APPROACH

The second shot should be short of the loch and in a central position, leaving a short, middle-iron third shot. Don’t be too aggressive here as you could be left with a nasty pitch back down the green.

    GREEN

The green has a slight step in the back left corner and small undulations.

Drive to the right half of the fairway to avoid a depression of severe rough on the left.

    APPROACH

Accuracy is paramount as the green is very narrow and well bunkered. The second shot is deceiving and requires a longer club than you may think.

    GREEN

A long, undulating green with four levels. It is difficult to read and judge the pace.

    TEE SHOT

Be careful with club selection as the two bunkers in front of the green make this hole deceptive and the green has very narrow depth.

    GREEN

The green is fairly flat, wide but not deep, and not difficult to read.

    TEE SHOT

Drive down the left of the fairway to avoid the bunkers on the right.

    APPROACH

Take enough club to carry the front bunkers which are some distance short of the front edge of the green. Better to be big here: err on being long as all the trouble is short.

    GREEN

A rolling, medium-size green with fairly big borrows and sloping from front to back.

    TEE SHOT

A good drive will hug the left side, avoiding the two fairway bunkers.

    APPROACH

The second shot could be anything from a fairway wood to a short iron. The safe second shot for an average golfer is either a lay up short of the fairway bunker or play for the right side of the green.

    GREEN

Bunkers front left and back right protect a green that has a pronounced ridge running across it. Leaving your ball on the same level as the pin is the key to making a good score.

    TEE SHOT

Should be aimed to the left of the fairway. Be careful not to go too far and reach the hidden ditch which is just beyond the top of the ridge.

    APPROACH

The right club is vital, due to an angled, well-bunkered green with no bail-out area.

    GREEN

One of the more undulating greens and tricky to read.

    TEE SHOT

The tee shot is from an elevated position so the whole green is visible. Good clubbing is important if the tee shot is to finish on the same level as the pin.

    GREEN

There is a small ridge running through the centre of the green, making long putting difficult.

    TEE SHOT

    APPROACH

The carry to the green is long and dangerous, so aim you second shot well to the left, leaving an easy pitch up the length of the green.

    GREEN

The green falls away to the left. It is narrow and long, but not too difficult to read.

    TEE SHOT

    APPROACH

If the approach to the green is missed to the left or long, it can leave an awkward pitch so you have to be accurate.

    TEE SHOT

The drive should be aimed just left of centre to avoid the fairway bunkers. It may be better to hit a long iron or a 3 wood to avoid the bunker on the left.

    APPROACH

Care must be taken as the approach shot is blind, but the green is free of bunkers and a generous size.

    APPROACH

As the entrance to the green is very narrow, aim for the centre of the green and take one club more than you think.

    TEE SHOT

The tee shot should be aimed to the left side of the fairway leaving a pitch perhaps with as little as a wedge to the green. It is important not to play down the right at this hole. For the longer hitters the green may even be drivable in good conditions and for even a moderate player a birdie should be a strong possibility.

    GREEN

A green that gathers shots both from right and left. It has quite a steep rise from front to back and tends to deceive. Make sure you are up to the hole.

    APPROACH

This should leave an open second shot to the large green. This shot may be longer than you think so take plenty of club.

    GREEN

A large two-step green with large, but obvious borrows.

    TEE SHOT

There is no escape unless you hit the green. No fairway exists and the ground slopes steeply to the right. Aim your tee shot to the left side of the green.

    GREEN

The putting is difficult with hills and hollows all over this green.

Before the course was built this particular area is said to have been a favourite with the local courting couples hence the name Lovers’ Gait or lovers’ walk.

    TEE SHOT

The drive must be to the left as there is a large bunker to the right edge of the fairway and so should the second shot.

    APPROACH

The bunker front left can make your approach deceptive. Take care not to be short.

    GREEN

This can be the quickest green on the course. It slopes down from front to back and from left to right. Any shot which lands on the front will travel forwards. The borrows are tricky and deceiving.

    TEE SHOT

This long par three has a two-tier green with a very obvious step in it. The loch is again on the right of the hole. This is another one which can be deceptive, often requiring a club more than it first appears.

    GREEN

A two-tier green. The green has a five-foot difference in levels. The answer is make sure you finish on the same level as the pin.

    TEE SHOT

The main hazard is obviously the loch on the right but the bunker should not be ignored. The green itself is fairly large.

    GREEN

A fairly flat long green, but with some subtle borrows.

    TEE SHOT

A drive to the top of the slope leaving a long iron to the green. The best position for the drive is towards the right.

    APPROACH

The second shot needs to carry to the green if you are aiming to get home in two so it would be better to be a club strong rather than short.

    GREEN

This green slopes down from front to back and can be fast. Err on being past the pin and leave an uphill putt.

    TEE SHOT

A decent drive to the right of the fairway followed by a relatively short iron to the green and you should have a birdie chance.

    GREEN

A relatively easy green. There are few severe borrows and the green is generous in size.

    TEE SHOT

The best line for the drive is at the right hand edge of the fairway bunker.

    APPROACH

The approach to the green is guarded by a pair of hillocks. Try to land between the hillocks and your ball will then run forward nicely.

    GREEN

The green lies in a hollow and runs down from front to back and will gather the ball from both sides. The green is fast from the front.

A Stey Brae is a steep hill and in a well-known Scots proverb it requires a stout heart to overcome it.

    TEE SHOT

If you are going to be able to see the green for your second then you have to hit a very long tee shot keeping it as close to the fairway bunker on the right.

    APPROACH

The second shot, if you have managed this, is very deceiving and is much longer than it appears. You will need two clubs more than you might expect

    GREEN

The green slopes down from back to front which leaves most second shots short. Big borrows from either side, but fairly level putts from front and back. Quick green from the back.

    TEE SHOT

A blind tee shot to the left-hand side opens up a relatively short pitch to the green.

    APPROACH

The array of bunkers across the front of the green will punish a timid approach, but equally the pitch must not be too bold as the green itself slopes away from you.

    GREEN

The green slopes down from front to back and left to right. Very fast from left to right. Very obvious borrows.

This hole is in fact the farthest from the start on the Queen’s Course and hence Westlin’ Wyne or westernmost turn.

    TEE SHOT

The tee shot should be played down the right side of the fairway to open up the remainder of the hole.

    APPROACH

The second should be played straight at the flag and if anything to the right of the pin.

    GREEN

There is a severe slope off to the front left with the back of the green much flatter and more even paced. Difficult to pitch to with a ridge running across the middle.

    TEE SHOT

The preferred drive is down the left-hand side of the fairway as out of bounds awaits along the right.

    APPROACH

The second shot is to an elevated green with a fall away to the right. Aim your shot to the left of the pin accordingly and take more club than first glance suggests.

Illustration of the 5th hole of the Queen's Course at Gleneagles

Glower O’er ’em or frown upon them is a fair description of how a player might regard the bunkers which are an important feature of this hole.

    TEE SHOT

This difficult short hole requires a middle or long iron from the tee. The right-hand side of the green cannot all be seen from the tee and, because of this and the large trap which comes into play in that area, it is best to place the tee shot on the middle left of the green.

    GREEN

This green is a lot longer than it looks. Slopes from the centre of the green off to the right towards the bunker and back of the green. A putt from the front will swing right if the pin is placed on the right half of the green. The left side is much flatter and easier to read.

    TEE SHOT

The best place for the drive is to the left of the centre of the fairway.

    APPROACH

The approach, if possible, with a middle iron should be aimed a little to the right of the pin on this slightly raised green. Be careful of the out of bounds down the right of the hole, particularly near the green.

    GREEN

This green is very difficult to read due to the dip on the right and the high side on the left. Usually even paced, but it will shed a hooked shot to the left.

    TEE SHOT

The drive on this long straight par 4 is very tight because of the trees on the left and the trees and ditch running along the right side of the fairway.

    APPROACH

A straight forward approach, but normally plays a club longer than expected.

    GREEN

The green slopes down from back to front making a putt from the back very fast. Also the front half of the green sheds the ball left and right.

    TEE SHOT

The drive has to be played to the right of the fairway to open up the hole for the second shot.

    APPROACH

Your approach shot must be up. Make sure you have enough club and avoid the difficult bunkers short and to the right.

    GREEN

The green is fairly flat with no obvious borrows. The approach which is fading to the right will fall off the green due to the bank sloping off the green.
