I finished school on a Friday, started as a trainee gamekeeper the next Monday and that was it. I started at Gleneagles as a handyman/instructor and I’m very proud to have worked my way up through the ranks to manage our brilliant School…
Meet the team:Alan Dickson
I’ve been at Gleneagles for 12 years now. We’re a hands-on team and I’m no exception – I teach every day & enjoy passing on my skills in clay pigeon and air rifle shooting, archery and fishing to our guests.
We have a superb selection of sporting targets for clay shooters, with an impressive 14 stands, along with a skeet and DTL range. There are seven well-stocked lakes for fishing, a dedicated 12-lane air rifle range and a purpose-built archery range. But facilities are nothing without great people, and I’m exceptionally proud of our team too. They are all enthusiastic people, who really care about giving the guests a fantastic experience.
When I’m not working, I spend a lot of time with my spaniels Darcy and Daisy. I shoot at working dog trials and take a lot of pleasure in watching the dogs work. I fish too, especially in the smaller rivers and I also love hillwalking. Field sports have always been in my life, thanks to my dad. Not only was he a gamekeeper, he also managed the School. He is supposed to be retired but still works as a part-time instructor – I can’t get rid of him! He taught me to fish when I was six, and how to shoot when I was ten.
