Our place in the local and global community
With a 1000-strong team, 233 bedrooms, nine bars and restaurants, three golf courses and 850 acres of leisure space, Gleneagles is a big operation. We’re striving to ensure our impact on the world is a positive one, by minimising our carbon footprint; playing our part in preserving natural assets for future generations; and actively using our voice and resources to give back where we can to support our friends and neighbours, locally, nationally and globally.
Our journey
We’re only at the beginning of the journey, but it’s a journey of continuous improvement. From our procurement protocols and our cleaning procedures, to our golf course maintenance and our charity initiatives, we’re committed to making Gleneagles a more socially and environmentally responsible place every single day.

View SummaryOur Five Pillars of Responsibility
We have five social and environmental responsibility pillars – Environment, Charity, Community, Suppliers and Industry – which guide and frame our commitment to making a positive impact in the world.
Environment
Perthshire’s beautiful scenery draws huge numbers of visitors every year. Helping to safeguard the region’s precious natural assets for the next generation is a top priority, to which we show our commitment through a range of initiatives relating to biodiversity, conservation, technology, travel and waste management.
Charity
We’re renowned for our warm hospitality and committed to making every single guest feel special, but we’re also dedicated to making a positive difference to the lives of those who need it most.
As providing bedrooms and food is what we’ve done for nearly a century, we want to support our community’s most vulnerable members to help keep them safe and dry. Our designated national charity partner is Edinburgh-born Social Bite.
We’re proud to support Andys Man Club, a charity group that offers a safe and friendly space for men to come together to talk about their mental health.
When the pandemic led us to temporarily closing our doors in 2020, we launched ‘Our Turn To Care’, to thank the heroes of the crisis with a long term gesture of gratitude by donating 365 free room nights to healthcare workers each year for the next five years.
Community
The towns and villages that surround Gleneagles offer a tapestry of heritage and traditions that have made their mark on Gleneagles in many ways. From the local tradesmen who dug the foundations for our hotel nearly 100 years ago, to the families who have visited and worked at the hotel for generations, Gleneagles is intrinsically tied and indebted to those local communities and we’re committed to giving back where we can.
Suppliers
From our soft Egyptian cotton bed linen and the manicured turf on our golf courses, to the coffee we serve at breakfast and the mouth-watering dishes in our restaurants, we’re proud to provide our guests with exceptional experiences. To do this, we source the highest quality produce and products as locally as possible and work hard to nurture our relationships with suppliers. We look for environmentally friendly products wherever possible and request the comprehensive data and “story” behind each product before we commit to a purchase.

Site visits
Our Supplier Code of Conduct ensures our suppliers share a common set of practices and principles in relation to social responsibility and business ethics within their own operations and throughout their supply chains.
Our greenkeepers, gardeners and chefs also make regular visits to the local tree and turf nurseries, farms, growers, fishermen and game stalkers who supply Gleneagles, to ensure those suppliers share our values of maintaining the highest standards of quality as well as appropriate animal welfare, environmental and working standards.
Our paper
A new ‘sustainable product development before introduction’ policy at Gleneagles allows our procurement team to influence suppliers’ manufacturing processes before goods are created and packaged for us to reduce environmental impact and increase supply chain resilience.
Our paper supplier, UKOS, holds outstanding environmental credentials, including the PEFC label which denotes responsible management of forests and woodland, and the Ecolabel which is accredited only to products delivering high quality environmental performance.
Creating a buzz
Did you know our team have installed hives on our estate, to produce honey from bees that enjoy foraging on the natural wild flowers on the estate? It doesn’t get much more locally-sourced than that!
The sunny summer months see the bees making the most of the golden gorse and broom which flourishes across the local countryside, ensuring lots of sweet blossom honey.
The honey is used by our Spa Therapists, who harness its natural therapeutic qualities during treatments, while our chefs feature it in dishes across our menus.
We’re also looking forward to introducing our junior guests to beekeeping educational experiences that will enable them learn about local biodiversity.
Industry
We’re committed to supporting the hospitality industry and nurturing the next generation of talent in Scotland through a range of schemes, initiatives and scholarship programmes.
