Gleneagles designs its own signature salmon fishing fly – The Gleneagles Glory

Fishing flies

Guests who book salmon fishing during their stay at Gleneagles will now be presented with the hotel’s new signature salmon fly – The Gleneagles Glory.

Designed and handtied by Willie McCutcheon, senior ghillie and shooting instructor at the hotel, he took his inspiration from the colour palette of green and copper showcased across the interior design of the hotel – which has recently been transformed through a multi-million pound investment programme.

Each fly is made using copper tinsel with a gold rib to add strength. The tail is made using bucktail and the wings with artic fox tail – with banana and firey-brown colouring and flash to add a shimmer.

Gleneagles’ director of leisure, Colin Farndon, commented that the flies combine Willie’s tremendous eye for detail and his years of experience of fishing the Tay. “As a historic sporting estate and luxury country house hotel, we pride ourselves on our attention to detail. These flies are another manifestation of that level of quality, reflecting the outstanding guest experience we deliver across all areas of the business.”

The day lasts from 9am to 5pm with a lunch break (a packed lunch can be provided) in a comfortable and warm fishing hut.

Packages from £455 – £695 per person per day, depending on location.
