Over the years, the cafe has become a mainstay of its home on South Street, where friends would gather for gelato and stay on into the evening, playing billiards after hours. Through the war years they remained a constant source of joy for Scotland’s east coasters, eventually adding a bicycle to their offering, which allowed their gelato to be experienced by even more people.
Fast forward a century or so and the original fior di latte flavour – made with rich, Scottish milk – endures as the most popular choice for punters looking for a sweet treat, but there’s a whole spectrum of flavours to discover. While the originals are sometimes best, the scoops in supporting roles have just as much star quality here. From a menu of more than 50 flavours in St Andrews, we’ve chosen 12 for The Garden Café.
